Peripheral Nerve Abnormalities

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition in which there is pressure of the medial nerve of the wrist leading to numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle damage of the hand and fingers. This medical (middle) nerve provides the feeling and movement to the thumb side of the hand. This condition is common in people who perform repetitive motions of the hand or wrist, such as typing, driving, painting, sewing, using vibrating tools, and playing some sports (racquetball). Wearing s splint can help to alleviate the symptoms of this condition, however, surgical intervention may be necessary.

Surgical Treatment:
Carpal Tunnel Release

ULNAR NERVE ENTRAPMENT

Ulnar nerve entrapment is a condition where the ulnar nerve become trapped or pinched due to some physiological abnormality. This condition is classified according to the location of the entrapment. Guyon’s canal syndrome is a nerve compression affecting the ulnar nerve at the wrist area, called the Guyon’s canal. Cubital tunnel syndrome is the obstruction of the ulnar nerve on the outer edge of the elbow, along the cubital tunnel. Surgical intervention may be needed.

Surgical Treatment:
Carpal Tunnel Release
Guyon’s Canal Release
Cubital Tunnel release
